The right tools for the job

If you've ever played in one the of the [furryclan] servers you'll know that many clan members like to make a lot of noise. If an explosive device can make a situation easier or faster, then we'll take it. Why send half a magazine of ammo down a corridor when a single fragmentation grenade can do the job?

The greatest stumbling block in Raven Shield is doorways. Known as a fatal funnel, it's the prime location to ambush an entry team as you all have to pass through a doorway in a single file line, so the less time you spend in the doorway the better. The fastest, and thus safest, way through a doorway that I've found is to just blow it up. Once the door is removed you don't need to worry about getting caught on it and then holding up everyone behind you.

The first thing you must look at is what kind of entry you are going to make and what's on the other side of the door. If you have to make a speedy entry then you want to be as close to the door as possible without injuring your own team. If however there are suspects on the other side of the door then you might want the added bonus of taking them out along with the door. Next look at what kind of door you're breaching; Raven Shield models both wooden and metallic doors. This matters since metallic doors aren't shattered and removed with explosions, they just swing open in which ever direction they are programmed to.

The Breaching Charge

This is the standard door charge to use when there are hostages in the room you are breaching as the charge does no damage to people and it has the added bonus of stunning anyone near the door when the charge goes off. If you want to make a fast entry with the team stacked up beside the door ready to go in, then this is the charge you want. The Breaching Charge however will only remove the door it's placed on to. It will not affect the second in a pair of double doors. You might want to make another selection to get through a larger opening. This however is the charge to use if you are breaching a room containing hostages; use of another more dangerous charge is likely to kill a hostage along with any suspects guarding him/her.

The Claymore Mine

This is your standard directional anti-personnel mine. It can also take out a door with minimal effort on your part. A wooden door will be shredded to pieces by a Claymore mine, however a metallic door is going to swing open, and not necessarily all the way. It does have the added ability to kill anyone on the other side of the door though, also allowing your team to stand fairly close to the explosion without getting injured, assuming you stand behind the blast. If you put the charge in the middle of a pair of doors then it can easily take them both out. This is the charge to use if you are breaching a wooden door and want to kill any suspects nearby, plus you can stand relatively close to the explosion without getting injured.

The Remote Charge

My personal favorite, if only for the destructive power this thing has. The Remote Charge will kill anything within its blast radius, no matter which direction you are standing to it. The blast will completely remove wooden double doors along with anyone on the other side of the door, and friendly team members who are stacked waiting to enter. This is the charge you want to use when you don't care about collateral damage, aren't bothered about the speed of your entry and don't have to worry about any hostages.

Conclusion

So there you have it. Before you finalise your kit selection, take a moment to think about the kind of breach you want to do. Chances are the right explosive for the job will make a breach go much smoother and easier.
